Stephen Colbert on e-mail etiquette

Lifehacker features this clip from the Colbert Report featuring e-mail etiquette author Will Schwalbe. In his usual fine form, Mr. Colbert expounds on his love of all caps and decries those e-mails that can bite you in the ass. Lifehacker readers have added their own e-mail pet peeves in the comments. One of my own latest peeves? People who insert a meaningless “thanks,” as a closing, when they aren’t actually thanking anyone for anything, i.e.:

Jerry,

The Soup Nazi turned me away again!

Thanks,

Elaine

It’s silly, and it cheapens the concept of gratitude.
