Docketing with Outlook 2003 part 2: Let Microsoft Outlook calculate dates for you

If you send docket entries using Outlook’s “Invite Attendees” feature, then you’ve probably had the daunting experience of seeing your inbox overflow with appointment acceptance e-mails after you docket a scheduling order.

Well, there is a way to keep those annoying things from being sent. In the new meeting window, after you’ve clicked on “Invite Attendees”:

Click Actions
Then click Request Responses to de-select it.

Continue with the appointment/docket entry creation process as usual. That’s all there is to it. Unfortunately, you can’t set “no replies” as your default (Mr. Gates, where are you on that, huh?), so you must remember to do it on every docket entry you send. But the welcome relief it provides makes it worth the trouble to me.

A side bonus to not requesting replies to your docket entries: It will also save your recipients from seeing that popup window asking if they want to send you a response. After they click “Accept,” the appointment window simply disappears.
